Quality Nutrition

It is important to know what you eat and how what you eat affects the body. This page is meant to guide you into a solid plan for your nutritional needs. It is time to stop guessing and use science..

Macronutrients

There are 3 main macro-nutrients found in almost every food we consume, they are fats, carbohydrates and protein. Each macro-nutrient provides the body with a different type of nutritional need. It is said that not all calories are created equal. This is true when we look at macro nutrient facts. For example did you know 1 banana on typical holds 27g of carbohydrates while a sonic slush has 520g of carbohydrates. The two are not only different amounts of carbs they are completely different types of carbohydrates.  This why any gaining knowledge of macro-nutrients is essential to growth.

Fats

Embrace fats, Fats are an essential part of a healthy diet and should account for about 15-20% what you consume daily. Fats help by improving brain development, overall cell functioning, protecting the body’s organs and even helping you absorb vitamins found in foods.

Some examples of healthy fats:    Almonds, walnuts, seeds (pumpkin, chia), olives, avocados.

Protein

Protein is essential for repairing and regenerating body tissues and cells, a healthy functioning immune system and manufacturing hormones.

This wouldn’t be possible without amino acids, which are found in protein-based foods. In total there are 20 types of amino acids,  9 of which are ‘essential’ and can only be found in certain foods.

Good sources of protein: Beans, pulses and legumes, seeds (hemp, chia, flax), nuts (unsalted), quinoa, avocado, beets, raw greens (kale, spinach).

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are comprised of small chains of sugar which the digestive body breaks down into glucose to use as the body’s primarily energy source and therefore need to make up around 45-65% of a diet.

Carbohydrates to choose: Apples, bananas, cauliflower, carrots, oats, brown rice, millet, quinoa, chickpeas, kidney beans.

Do supplements help?

In today's busy world supplements have become a billion dollar industry. This can make it hard for the consumer when deciding what products to use. I have tried so many products and I will admit, I have learned that QUALITY matters. I personally recommend, Herbalife supplements. I have used the products for many years and have seen great improvements in my overall health. The company has also stood the test of time and is located in over 58 countries around the world; however, I also want to state that there is no magic pill or supplement. At the end of the day you will get success in equal portion to your effort to eat well and exercise.
